Sometimes bands have a completely original and unique sound. The singer has such a unique quality and character in his voice, and the other instrumentalists fill in around him. Together, they create the sound of a pissed off Stevie Wonder.
Then the band gains popularity and their second album has a lot of cheesy synths, leaving fans of their first album with hope that the third album will be a return-to-form of sorts.
Finally, when the third album comes out, it completely destroys the fan base that the band built up with its first album (and previous amazing rock & roll work).
In fact, the third album is so full of terrible cheesiness and lyrical clichés that the only fan base that Maroon 5 really has left is teenage girls looking for something to dance to. And the fan boys of yore look on…
